Sustainable Groundwater Management in N. Sacramento Valley – Regional Forum

The Sustainable Groundwater Managmeent Act (SGMA) went into effect January 1, 2015. It was described as:

Local agencies will now have the power to assess the conditions of their local groundwater basins and take the necessary steps to bring those basins in a state of chronic long-term overdraft into balance.

Please join us at Rolling Hills Casino Event Center in Corning, CA for a regional forum to discuss how local agencies are progressing in the implementation of SGMA. It is vital that local water users understand SGMA and engage in its implementation.

9:00-9:20: Bringing clarity to water regulatory programs faced by agriculture – Jack Rice

9:20-9:50: Overview of SGMA and roles of state agencies – Bill Ehorn, California Department of Water Resources, Northern Regional office and Sam Boland, State Water Resources Control Board

9:50-10:15: Examples of sustainable criteria and possible management actions – Thomas Harter, University of California Davis and UC Agriculture and Natural Resources

10:15-10:30 – Break, refreshments

10:30-Noon: Updates from your local Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs) – Moderator Christine Buck, Butte County Department of Water and Resource Conservation
